HRH Awards over $23,500 to Support Community Health Projects
Holy Rosary Healthcare has recently awarded $23,691 in grants to Eastern Montana organizations as part of HRH’s mission to further projects that enhance the health of the people and communities served. The grants are funded through the Holy Rosary Mission Fund, which since its inception in 2001 has awarded over $200,000 to support critical healthcare initiatives with significant community impact.

Holy Rosary Healthcare periodically conducts a comprehensive community-based health needs assessment to identify unmet health-related areas of focus. The HRH Community Benefit Committee has utilized the results of the most recent survey to develop its 2009 work plan and assist in awarding grants that are aligned with Holy Rosary’s mission and are aligned with health concerns of the community.

Pregnancy Outreach Clinic

A group organizing a Pregnancy Outreach Clinic was awarded $9,401 for start up costs of the clinic. The Pregnancy Outreach Clinic of Miles City will actively work towards opening an effective outreach to young women in an unplanned pregnancy. Their goal is to offer relative services that would encourage, educate and inform these decision makers about their options concerning their pregnancy.

New Years Re-Solution

The HRH Healthy Lifestyles program has been awarded $1,500 for a four week refresher course for past participants of the program. The purpose of the program is to provide a method for alumni of Healthy Lifestyles to continue contact with the program for improved goal achievement.

Retired Senior Volunteer Newsletter

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program has been awarded $450 to help with the cost of postage for their bi-monthly newsletter. Approximately 250 newsletters are mailed using bulk mail. The newsletter provides advice to seniors on a variety of topics and provides updates on community events.

Paramedic Training

The Miles City Fire Rescue was awarded $3,500 to be used to help send the firefighter/EMT’s to paramedic school in Hardin, MT. The purpose of the project is to save lives by putting paramedics on the ambulances. Miles City is the only major community in MT without paramedics or advanced life support field providers.

Aquatic and Recreational Center

Fun2U was awarded $1,000 to be used for financial support. The mission of Fun2U is to enhance the lives of Eastern Montanans through physical and nonphysical activities by building an Aquatic Center for activities and health education.

Scholarships for Youth

The Keeping our Kids First / ROCKS program was awarded $3,840 to be used to provide financial scholarship assistance for children from low-income families. The program provides families the ability to have a safe after school environment where their children have supervision, help with their homework by staff members and access to a variety of educational opportunities.

Hand Sanitizers

The Miles City Unified School District was awarded a $4,000 grant from the Holy Rosary Healthcare Mission Fund to install 75 more hand sanitizers in the school system. The funding helped to purchase the dispensers and the sanitizing liquid for each dispenser with additional liquid as supply. This project began in June 2008 with two elementary schools and has continued on in all elementary schools in the county as well as Sacred Heart School and the Miles City Public Library. This project will help promote the overall health and cleanliness of the community’s youth and to see a decrease in the total number of illnesses throughout the school year. This projects success has also been accredited to the efforts of Grainger Supply for donating the dispensers.

Grants are awarded quarterly by the Community Benefit Committee at Holy Rosary. An approved program must meet a majority of the following criteria:

  • the requesting organization or project is based in eastern Montana;
  • demonstrates a commitment to the Holy Rosary Healthcare mission, vision and values;
  • impacts a significant number of people in need as documented in recent surveys and/or other community resource data;
  • uses creative and innovative approaches to meet unmet needs;
  • forms collaborative partnerships that improve the health of the community;
  • uses resources effectively;
  • documents measurable outcomes that demonstrate the success of the project;
  • addresses the needs of the economically disadvantaged and includes them in planning and executing the project when appropriate.

Holy Rosary Healthcare’s community outreach is mission- and ministry-driven and is primarily targeted to those most in need (poor, elderly, children, minorities, disenfranchised and medically underserved) to ensure that all in our region have access to quality care. Grants are generally for one-time use efforts, though multi-year projects may be considered through annual reapplication.
